Wind Waker:

Day 89: (March 2, 2016)
Wind Waker
Much better! Yeah, I totally ditched that last one. Well not totally since I'll be coming back to it but I'm moving on to one I know I can get through (because I've done it before). So... Introduction:

After Ocarina of Time was made (and I pretty much missed Majora's Mask until well after Wind Waker), I happened to hear about Nintendo's efforts to make a full Zelda game for the Game Cube. I followed E3 information, peoples' blogs, and every resource I could to find out what this game was going to be like. Unfortunately, I was a bit biased at the time and when I found out that the whole game was going to be cell-shaded (cartoony), I was disapointed. The Game Cube had some great graphics capabilities for its time (like any other current system) and I wanted another gritty Zelda like Ocarina of Time, not some stupid kids cartoon Zelda. I totally cheated myself out of a good game for years. Eventually, I got a Game Cube and I got my copy of Wind Waker and totally enjoyed the game. The cartoon look mixed well with the sounds and music as well as the whole look and feel of the game, itself. The cartoon look just makes more sense for this game because Link is still just a child here and the story isn't as dark as Ocarina of Time got. In addition to that is the fact that your main mode of transportation is a boat. This whole world is flooded and the map is a grid of 64 areas (8 by 8) if I remember right and most areas have one main island and maybe some smaller ones as well. There is no way you can simply walk into any one area from another. Sailing in this game is fun. You could just sail straight where you want to go or you could also take advantage of any of the fun distractions that you'll run into out there. Just going around in this world is entertaining enough. My first time through, I came to love sailing so much that I got out a piece of paper and drew my own map of the world (the game does it for you anyway, but I wanted my own hand drawn version because that's just how I am). Seriously, kids. This game was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to going through this one again.

For anyone interested: I will be playing the original Game Cube verison of this game. There is a Wii U version which looks so very much better but I have neither that game nor a Wii U. But I want to play this way anyway, because I like the old Tingle Tuner (though I understand the HD version has a modified version of it).

Like many Zelda games, this one starts out with a bit of a narrative that goes over some lore and sets up the world. It explains why the world was flooded and it states that the inhabitants of a certain island (the one you come from) has a tradition where all boys wear the Hero's Clothes (Link's Clothes) on a certain birthday and they are from then on considered men.

On the actual start of the story, this is your character's special birthday.
